Multi Activity Holidays in Tromsø

5 days | 4 nights

Located at 350 km north of the Arctic Circle, the city of Tromsø is the place where nature and culture are in perfect alliance. Here, you will find various attractions and museums, as well as the most northern botanical garden in the world. In the 1900s, Tromsø was also the starting point for expeditions to the North Pole – hence its nickname “Gateway to the Arctic”. Tromsø is one of the best places on earth to observe the Northern Lights. The most favorable months to observe this phenomenon are December, January, February and March. Our tour is an invitation to discover the beautiful small town of Tromsø, its famous Arctic cathedral, its fjords and above all to meet this fascinating natural phenomenon, the Northern lights. Our programme includes three of the most important winter transport modes in this region: dog sledding, reindeer sledding and snow mobile.

.

We recommend guests visiting Tromsø between 1 October and 15 January to prolong the stay in Tromsø with one night, in order to include a whale safari. You have the choice between a regular boat or a hybrid ship, which will turn on its electric engines when we get closer to the whales, in order not to disturb them. Contact us for more information.

DAY 1

Arrival in Tromsø

Transfer from Tromsø Airport to the hotel
Four nights in a category **** hotel in the centre of Tromsø, breakfast included

DAY 2

Husky Safari (09:45-13:45)

Dog sledding with our Alaskan Huskies is the heart and soul of Tromsø! Join us for a dog sledding excursion on Kvaløya, one of the largest islands in Norway. Enjoy some stunning views of the mountains that surround Tromsø and the Balsford and Malangen peninsula. We will drive 4 km with the Huskies, which takes a little bit more than one hour. We will also get the chance to meet our 300 four-legged friends closely and spend some time with the puppies. You can choose to go in a sled driven by a guide or to drive yourself together with another guest. After this adventure in the Norwegian winterland, a hearty dish of bidos, prepared with reindeer meat, broth and vegetables is all that the body needs. We will serve the meal in the camp around the open fire. Vegetarian meals available on request.

It is also possible to join us on our evening excursion, in order to have greater possibilities to see the Northern lights.

Optional excursion – Aurora Dinner Cruise (19:00-22:00)

Welcome onboard our ship with hybrid-electric engines, which guarantees a minimal level of noise and vibrations that could interfere with nature and marine life. We cruise around Tromsø Island and past snow-covered mountains – and maybe the magical Northern Lights appear above us! During the evening, we will try to launch the underwater drone if the circumstances allow this, bringing you closer to the rich marine life of Tromsø. Enjoy the Arctic landscape around you as we serve a modern Arctic Tapas dinner with local ingredients based on traditional dishes.

DAY 3

Reindeer Safari and Sami Culture (11:00-14:00)

Welcome to an authentic Sami experience in a reindeer sleigh. During this excursion, you can easily imagine the nomadic way of life of the Arctic tundra while admiring the mountains and fjords of Kvaløya. After the reindeer safari, you can listen to the songs and stories of the Sami with our local Sami guide. A traditional lunch is served under a Lavvo (Sami tent). Return to Tromsø at 14:00.

Searching for the Northern lights by bus (18:00-00:00 or later …)

Are you ready for a real adventure? Before the start of the tour, our guide will analyze the weather to predict the best places for the Northern Lights show. Most often we can find the aurora on the coastal islands, sometimes the clear sky will wait for us in Finland. Once we find the perfect place, we will set up a campfire and start capturing the show on camera. Relax with hot drinks, warm up with a hot meal, and enjoy delicious cookies. The guide will take pictures during the visit and make sure you have your perfect picture with the northern lights. If you decide to bring your own camera, the guide has tripods available and will help you set up the camera. The photos taken during the visit will be sent to you the next day. The duration of the tour can vary from 6 to 9 hours, depending on the weather.

DAY 4

Snowmobile Safari (09:00-16:00)

Finally it is time for what many consider the highlight of the tour! Our snowmobile safari gives you the opportunity to venture into the wilderness and discover the mountains of the far north. We begin the adventure with a comprehensive introduction to safety and a practical demonstration. You do not need any previous skills to drive a snowmobile. All you need is a normal physical condition and a Class B driver’s license. We will drive in couples, a driver and a passenger on each snowmobile, with the option to change underway. We will drive through the picturesque mountains and through the spectacular snowy valleys, from 250 metres up to 900 metres above the sea. The trail is 15 km one way, that is 30 km in total, and we will be on the snowmobiles for about 2 h 30 minutes. Due to the dramatic topography, a reduced speed is maintained during certain parts of the tour. The highlight of the track is the Finn Ice Lake, where we can speed up and get the adrenaline pumping! If the weather permits, you can try ice fishing on the lake. At the end of the trip, we will have a hot meal and coffee in a comfortable lavvu (Sami tent) around an open fire.

It is also possible to join us on our evening excursion, in order to have greater possibilities to see the Northern lights. It is also possible to include two more activities and stay the whole day at Camp Tamok. Departure from the hotel at 09:00 and return to the hotel at midnight. Ask us for more details.
