  16 September 2012 : Copenhagen, Denmark

Norwegian Sun. Copyright: Norwegian Cruise Line

Welcome to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark! The city still gives life to the myth of the Little Mermaid, the well-known personality created by the world famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. If you have the possibility, we do recommend that you discover the Danish capital and spend a few nights here before you start your cruise. Departure at 5 PM.

19  September 2012: Ålesund, Norway

Copyright: Innovation Norway - CH www.visitnorway.com

After a fire in 1904, the centre of Ålesund was rebuilt in the characteristic architecture of that period, the Art Nouveau, and today Ålesund is one of the three last Art Nouveau-cities in Europe. Join one of the excursions and explore the attractive park at the foot of mount Aksla. Here, you will find exotic trees and plants as well as a memorial stone dedicated to the emperor Wilhelm II, who also has the main street in town named after him. You can also visit the Sunnmøre Open-Air Museum, where you will see various types of farmhouses and boathouses.

22  September 2012: Day at sea

Norwegian Sun. Copyright: Norwegian Cruise Line

Day at sea. Freestyle cruising means a world of dining opportunities: Steak, Sushi, Teppanyaki, Tapas, French, Mediterranean, Asian Fusion, Italian, Tex-Mex, Buffets… Freestyle cruising also means that restaurants are open for dinner from 17:30 to midnight with seating until 22:30. Do your thing and catch dinner when you're hungry, not when the dinner bell rings. Freestyle Cruising is not too dressy, not too casual. We call it “resort casual”, you will call it being on holiday. When you're ready for dinner, it’s collared shirts and pants or nice jeans for men, slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops for women.

25  September 2012: Day at sea

Let’s go out tonight! From chill-out zones to the very signature of Norwegian Cruise Line - the sizzling White Hot Party nights - the fun does not stop until you do. With 11 bars and lounges on board the Norwegian Sun - some full of energy, others laid back - you can have a “night on the town” every night without even leaving the ship!

28 September 2012: Day at sea

Day at sea. No plans for tonight? We have a suggestion! Only one? In fact, we have thousands of suggestions! Check out how well you are singing or go clubbing, You can dance into the dawn! Onboard Norwegian Sun you are free to choose if you prefer live music, a Broadway style show in the Stardust theatre or dance to the disco beat in the Dazzles. Throw a dice in the Sun Club Casino or just enjoy a romantic walk on deck.

17 September 2012: Day at sea

Norwegian Sun. Copyright: Norwegian Cruise Line

Day at sea. This is the moment to discover and enjoy all the activities offered on board. We are not bragging when we say that Norwegian Sun has everything on board. Everything except for a schedule. You can practice wall-climbing, go bowling, work out in the fitness centre, swim in one of the pools, roll the dice in the casino, sing karaoke, catch a Broadway-style show in the theatre, enjoy a quiet afternoon with a book from the ship's library or check out the art gallery.

20  September 2012: Leerwick, Shetland Islands

Welcome to the Shetland Islands

The Shetlands are a mosaic of over a hundred islands where land and water blend. The most northerly part of the British Isles, these islands are inhabited by approximately 22,000 people and an abundance of wildlife. It is a land shaped by the sea from dramatic sculptured cliffs to tranquil sandy bays and the home of the the delightful and inquisitive Shetland pony. Visit Fort Charlotte, which never saw action, but housed a garrison throughout the Napoleonic Wars and has served as the town jail, courthouse, customs house and coastguard station. And do explore the variety of small independent shops in Learwick, browsing for local crafts and knitwear. In Learwick we go ashore by tender.

23  September 2012: Reykjavik, Iceland

Welcome to the Blue Lagoon

In 874 the Norwegian leader Ingólfur Arnarson founded the capital of Reykjavik. Visit the Blue Lagoon, crowned by clouds of vapor and surrounded by lava, with warm, mineral-rich water reputed for its healing properties.  Go whale-watching! Or take part in the Super 4x4 Adventure, with a type of vehicle with the biggest available tires in the world - only to be found in Iceland! You can also enjoy Iceland on the back of an Icelandic Horse. The import of horses is forbidden and any horse leaving Iceland can never return, so present day horses in Iceland are the same race as those of the Viking Age!

26 September 2012: Greenock (Glasgow), Scotland

Visit Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city, famous for its industrial past and for its resurrection as a modern cultural capital. It’s the home town of architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a city with some of the best museums and galleries in Britain. During your stop you can also visit Edinburgh, a beautiful, fascinating city dominated by a castle built high on a craggy ridge at the centre. Or join the excursion to the famous and beautiful inland Loch Lomond, known as the “Queen of Scottish Lakes”, the largest in Great Britain.

29  September 2012: Day at sea

Norwegian Sun. Copyright: Norwegian Cruise Line

Day at sea. Enjoy some of the beauty treatments in the Body Waves Spa or a yoga class. Check out the fitness room and the Body Waves aerobics classes if you feel that you had too much dessert, and didn't we all?  There is even a basketball and volleyball court on board - with nets so you do not risk to throw the ball overboard! Check out the photos from all the excursions in the Photo Shop or just chill in the Sports Bar on Deck 11.

18 September 2012: Bergen, Norway

Welcome to Bergen. Copyright: Innovation Norway & CH

Bergen has a beautiful setting between several mountains and the sea, sheltered by a myriad of islands from the North Sea. The Norwegian Kings resided here, and many historical events took place in this busy port. Pay a visit to the Fish Market on your way to the Bryggen Hanseatic Quarters. Bergen has seven mountains, and we recommend that you take the funicular to the top of Mount Flöien, 1 000 feet above the city. The ride takes about five minutes and travels at a 26 degree incline, stopping for commuters along the way. At the summit, be prepared for magnificent views of the city, harbor, and countryside, weather permitting.

21  September 2012: Tórshavn, Faroe Islands

Welcome to the Faroe Islands

Tórshavn began as a Viking settlement, followed by a market, later became a thriving town, and today it is one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. The Faroe Islands is a self-governing dependency of the Kingdom of Denmark. Tórshavn has never experienced any major fires and many houses from the 16th and 17th century are still preserved. Tórshavn means "Thor's Harbour" and is named after the god of thunder and lightning in Norse mythology. The Faroese usually refer to their capital as Havn, i.e. Harbour.

24 September 2012: Day at sea

Norwegian Sun. Copyright: Norwegian Cruise Line

Day at sea. On board the Norwegian Sun you have the run of two Main Dining Rooms - one classic, one contemporary - with a multi-course menu of tempting, freshly prepared cuisine. Eat inside or alfresco at the stylish buffet with all your favourite cooked-to-order choices and more. Then there are casual cafés, on-deck grills and barbecues. And for that lazy breakfast in bed, light meal or anytime snack, there is a complimentary 24 hour in-room dining menu (delivery charge applies midnight to 5AM).

 27  September 2012: Dublin, Ireland

Visit Dublin

Welcome to Dublin or Baile Átha Cliath as Ireland's capital is called in Irish. This is a city steeped in history, tragic and glorious, with haunting memories of great patriots, statesmen, scientists and scholars. There are fine buildings and friendly people. Few capitals are so beautifully situated. Dublin Bay forms a sweeping crescent from the Hill of Howth to Dalkey. A salt wind blows into the heart of the city and the slopes of the Wicklow Hills seem to rise at the end of every street in the southern suburbs. Dublin is so compact a city it has been described as a capital in miniature.

 30 September 2012: Copenhagen

Wonderful Copenhagen

We arrive in Copenhagen at 7 AM, but you can keep your stateroom until 9 and disembark at 10. Prolong your stay  with a few more nights in Copenhagen, Århus, Malmö or Simrishamn. You could even continue to the Swedish capital Stockholm on a high speed train. Or perhaps you do not want to disembark at all? Norwegian Sun departs at 5PM with destination  Lisbon, Madeira and Miami, Florida!   Ask us for more details about this Transatlantic cruise of 14 nights starting at 829 euros per person!
