Multi Activity Holidays in Rovaniemi

8 Days | 7 Nights

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland, located at the Arctic Circle and the home town of Santa Claus. This Nordic region has eight different seasons, each with its special light, temperature and natural phenomena. The changing seasons of Rovaniemi offer excellent settings for all kinds of activities and walks through the snow-covered forests and on frozen rivers: reindeer safaris, dog sledding safaris and snowmobile safaris. Go searching for the Northern Lights. Try ice fishing on a frozen lake and learn more about the Nordic fauna at the Ranua Wildlife Park. And although the Christmas period takes place only once a year, you can experience Christmas in Rovaniemi throughout the year.

DAY 3

Morning: Husky Safari – 10 kilometres (09:15-11:45)

After a short drive from town, we arrive at a husky kennel, where friendly huskies will enthusiastically welcome you. Before departing on the safari, you will be instructed how to control the sleds. This safari allows you to experience something unique: the ties between the musher and the dogs formed on a joint expedition into the wilderness. You soon learn that behind its icy-blue gaze, a husky is a friendly canine character who works closely with people. Once you return to the kennel, you can enjoy hot berry juice by an open fire and chat away with the musher about these amazing northern animals.

Evening: Aurora Borealis Adventure (21:00-01:00)

After stepping out of the car in the middle of the Lappish wilderness, we will proceed to a river while experiencing the surrounding tranquil nature. To witness the northern sky at its finest, you get to reach the best possible spot. But, be patient, as the auroras love playing hide-and-seek. You never know when they might show up! While enjoying the peace of nature, you can fry sausages surrounded by the warmth of the fire. Next, your journey swings by a cozy old building “Poro-Pekan Pirtti”. Here you’ll get a trip to the past of Lapland by the welcoming hosts of the house. This relaxing escape will satisfy all your senses! Transfer to the wilderness and back by car (50 km one way).

DAY 4

Morning: Excursion to Ranua Wildlife Park (09:00-13:00)

At the Ranua Wildlife Park you meet the endangered arctic species like the polar bear, the arctic fox, the snowy owl and the musk ox, greatly threatened by climate change. Learn how those species are protected and also how
injured animals are nursed and cared and let back in to the nature! Ranua Wildlife Park is a Zoo but is also committed to protecting endangered animal species and helping encourage people to be part of protection programs. You will have time to visit souvenir and wine shops before the journey back to Rovaniemi.

Evening: Dinner in a kota (18:00-20:00)

Experience a traditional Kota dinner by the open fire! Forget about the hustle and bustle and relax by enjoying traditional Finnish delicacies in a genuine Lappish hut. Your evening starts with slowly cooked salmon, followed by Lappish traditional reindeer stew with mashed potatoes. After the main course, delicious pancakes will be prepared by the open fire. You may even fry your own pancake! A limited selection of wines, beers and beverages are available for purchase on the spot.

DAY 5

Afternoon: White silence on snowshoes (14:30-17:30)

Capture the true feeling of the Arctic on this snowshoe adventure, where you will journey through the picturesque snowy countryside of Lapland and experience the silence and beauty of wintry forests. Have a break by an open fire and enjoy some snacks while the only sound you will hear is the soothing sough of the forest and the campfire. This adventure requires basic physical fitness and is recommended for children of 12 years or older.

DAY 6

Evening: Searching for the Northern Lights by snowmobile (18:00-21:00)

Experience the magic of an Arctic night by driving through a snow-covered forest and on a frozen river. With a little luck, you’ll travel under a bright sky, lit by the moon and the stars. Perhaps the Aurora Borealis – the Northern Lights – will appear to show you the way. Sip warm beverages and savour a snack by a campfire and learn more about the Northern Lights and the beauty of Lapland.

DAY 7

Morning: Ice Fishing by snowmobile (09:00-13:00)

This tour heads north on a snowmobile trail that takes you along the frozen River Ounasjoki up into the hills, where you can admire the snowy forests and wilderness of Lapland. Following the trail through white, snow-covered fields, you’ll arrive at a small wilderness lake. The silence will envelop you as the guide prepares you to go fishing. Try your hand at traditional ice fishing and fry your catch over a campfire. Afterward, return to town for a well earned rest.

Evening: Visit to the Arctic SnowHotel and dinner at the Ice Restaurant (16:45-20:30)

This excursion includes return transfers, a guided tour of the Arctic SnowHotel, where the guide will tell you about the construction, operation and special features of the snow hotel and, finally, a three course dinner in the Ice Restaurant. The Ice Restaurant built of snow and ice provides a unique setting for an unforgettable dinner prepared from local ingredients.
