Our individual package tour to the West Coast of Norway offers a maximum freedom and focuses on discovering the west coast of Norway from the sea. In Ålesund, you will go on a RIB excursion to discover the surroundings of Ålesund. The next day, you will visit the Geirangerfjord aboard the Coastal Express Hurtigruten. A night cruise will take you to Bergen, Norway’s second largest city. Our individual package tour also includes a 10 hour excursion by ferry on the Sognefjord to Flåm – a real must! After three nights in Bergen, you will travel south along the coast to Norway’s third-largest city, Stavanger, where you will visit the Pulpit Rock during a boat excursion on the Lysefjord.

DAY 1

Arrival at Ålesund

After the Ålesund fire in 1904, which destroyed most of the predominantly wooden houses, the town of Ålesund was rebuilt between 1904 and 1907 in the style of Art Nouveau. At the Norwegian Center for Art Nouveau Architecture you can learn more about the fire, the reconstruction of the city and the Art Nouveau style. The Sunnmøre Museum is an open-air folk museum with more than 55 old representative houses from the last 300 years that have been transported to the site. The Atlanterhavsparken is one of the most special aquariums in Europe. The aquarium is built in the coastal landscape on the west coast of Ålesund. Do not miss the feeding every day at 1pm. The Aquarium also has a spectacular outdoor area with a direct view to the Atlantic Ocean and a separate penguin park.

DAY 2

RIB Excursion

During our two-hour high-speed RIB-safari we will visit the coastline outside Ålesund and discover the spectacular landscapes and wildlife of Fjord Norway. We will visit a seal colony and the famous Runde Bird Sanctuary with its eagles and puffins. Our local guide will tell you interesting stories and take you close to nature. This safari is an exciting and fun experience for the whole family! Please note that the minimum passenger height is 1m40.

DAY 3

Boat Trip on the Geirangerfjord

The Geirangerfjord is part of the fjords of Eastern Norway that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The List contains two separate areas: the Geirangerfjord area and the Nærøyfjord area. Together they form an area of 1227 square kilometers of which 107 are covered by the sea. We leave Ålesund at 10:00 on one of the Hurtigruten ships direction Geiranger. Possibility to include lunch on board at a surcharge. We will arrive back at Ålesund at 19:00.

DAY 4

Ålesund – Bergen by Boat

Departure from Ålesund aboard the Coastal Express at 01:20 AM – Please note that this is a night departure. You will keep you hotel room until the departure.

DAY 5

City Walk with your own Private Guide (10:00-12:00)

Your hotel is ideally located in the Hanseatic area of Bryggen, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Just a few steps from the hotel, you will travel back hundreds of years to the times when Bryggen was a bustling merchant center. We will also visit St Mary’s Church, the oldest preserved building in the entire city of Bergen.

Optional Culinary Evening Excursion to Mount Ulriken (18:00-20:00)

Take the cable car up to the Mount Ulriken at 643 metres above sea level and enjoy both a magnificent view and a delicious meal. In the evening, a part of the Skyskraperen Restaurant transforms into a fine dining restaurant with a modern and exciting menu. The chefs serve delicious flavors based on the best local and seasonal produce. The food is presented in a modern package in a series of different servings. Your evening excursion includes local transport from the fish market, the cable car and a four course meal, excluding beverages.

DAY 6

Excursion by Boat on the Sognefjord and Train to Flåm

The second longest fjord in the world, the Sognefjord, is in the heart of Fjord Norway and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Flåm railway was named “the most incredible train journey in the world” by Lonely Planet in 2014. During this 20 kilometer journey, you will pass deep ravines, waterfalls plunging from steep cliffs, snowy mountains, small farms clinging to steep slopes and lush meadows.

DAY 7

DAY 8

City Walk with your own Private Guide (10:00-13:00)

During this tour with your private guide, you will discover the old Stavanger neighborhood, which consists of 173 wooden houses from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In fact, this is the largest collection of wooden houses in Europe. We will walk through Øvre Holmegate, a modern street where all the houses are painted in different colors. In addition, we will visit Valbergtårnet, an old watchtower for the city guards and we will pass by the Stavanger Cathedral, the only Norwegian cathedral from the Middle Ages that has preserved its original architecture. We will hear stories of Stavanger’s stagnation and progress, from urban formation, through the industrial ages with herring and canned food, to the modern oil city of today. The tour ends at the Petroleum Museum, where we will get a better idea of everything that surrounds the black gold of Norway.

DAY 9

Boat Excursion on the Lysefjord to the Pulpit Rock

The Pulpit Rock at an altitude of 600 meters is the most visited site of the region. You can admire the rock from the fjord below, but it is even more impressive from above. The spectacular two-hour walk to the summit is crowned with breathtaking views of the fjord (supplement).
